About the project
After having a great experience in the project “Mankind in motion” in 2014, our gymnasium was invited to participate in a new international Erasmus+ project arranged by Albert- Einstein- Shule, Germany. As participating in projects gives excellent opportunities for training and development, we gladly said Yes!
This time five schools from Germany, Austria, Sweden, France and Latvia have joined together to do a common project about Peace. The project’s participants are students who are 15 to 17 years old. The project has already started and is being implemented from September 2015 till May 2017.
Nowadays issues of War and Peace are relevant as never before. Mankind is seeking the ways to preserve and secure peace, but unfortunately, people have not succeeded in solving this problem so far. If we really want Peace, then we need to think not about the reasons of War but of the ways in which we can create Peace.
We do not believe Peace is about simply removing all the weapons in the world. If all the guns suddenly vanished from the face of the earth, fear, anger and hate would still remain and be present. These feelings cannot maintain Peace.
We are sure Peace is a kind of thinking that allows us to feel understanding and have compassion upon those who we do not know and therefore, are scared of. We are fully confident that people can learn to appreciate and understand other people, and consequently choose this way of thinking for preservation and maintenance Peace consciously. And young people of a new generation are those ones who are able to solve the problems of War and Peace!
“It isn’t enough to talk about Peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.” – Eleanor Roosevelt.
The main goal of the project is to study modern issues of Peace and Conflicts. Students in international teams have to:
- explore various factors and requirements for Peace in the past and present;
- understand the causes of armed conflicts;
- develop ways to prevent and resolve War;
- produce one collaborative artifact at the end of the project.
During the project there will be 4 meetings of the project’s partners.
November 2015 – Kufstein, Austria
April 2016 – Riga, Latvia
December 2016 – Uppsala, Sweden
April 2017 – La Queue-lez-Yvelines, France.

Meeting in Austria in Nov 2015
The first meeting took place in Kufstein, Austria, in November 09 -13, 2015.
Our team consisted of 6 students: Anastasija Javorska, Stanislavs Kurass, Vladimirs Scigolevs, Margarita Pasnina, Valerija Januseva and Milena Dile. All of them had had academic success and victories in different kinds of Riga City and State Olympiads as well as other student competitions. That is why we decided to invite them to be the participants of the first stage of the project.
During the Kufstein meeting there were a lot of activities for students, which included introduction, selection of the project’s logo, workshops, excursions, tutorials on movie making, etc. Especially interesting were sessions with the lecturers from the Department of Peace Studies at the University of Innsbruck. Those were workshops and practical sessions during which students were mastering the basics of Peace Studies.
Our students were living in host families. They had a great opportunity to experience Austrian hospitality and practice their English and German languages. The host school in Kufstein did everything to welcome all the partners with warmth and love.
